We are looking for a motivated senior design engineer to add to our growing business. The right person will have the ability to multi task, lead technical design projects with a team of skilled engineers and interact with clients about current and future projects. Eligible candidates must have 7 years minimum experience in the heavy equipment industry. The ability to communicate with personalities of all types is essential in this position.

Desired skills and responsibilities:
- Knowledge of CNC Machine Centers
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems – Global Shop is a plus
- Proficient with solid modeling software – Solidworks preferred
- Knowledgeable in plate and structural steel fabrication
- Provide on floor shop support as needed
- Conduct design assessments for manufacturability and cost effectiveness
- Contribute to product design meetings and collaborate with multiple cross functional teams
- Collect customer requirements and produce conceptual models to be used for project proposals
- Experience leading projects with multi-disciplinary technical problems.
- Stay knowledgeable of industry advancements and apply latest technology keep ahead of market trends.
- Mechanical/Industrial Engineering degree with 7+ years of experience in the heavy equipment industry is required.
JW Bell is seeking a qualified individual for its Manufacturing Design Engineer position (multiple positions), working in our Cedar Rapids, Iowa office. This position will work with a team of 5 other Engineers, a Programmer, and Estimator to timely design, cost, and process to production JW Bell jobs. Strategically source required purchased items and material to and incorporate them into JW Bell’s original equipment.
Additional job duties include: Create 3D model using Solidworks to design equipment and fixtures for manufacturing systems; Analyze past failures, monitor industry trends, utilize new technologies to create new designs and add new methodology to JW Bell’s Manufacturing engineering capabilities; Calculate and design to desired customer specifications on custom equipment such as weigh regulations, size limitations, and speed requirements; Visit customers at work sites to understand constraints for designs; Assist manufacturing in processing parts and components via digital tools such as Pronest, Edrawings, Solidworks, Autodesk Viewers, as well as physically assist by creating drawings, hand sketches, and occasionally showing part layout; Managing projects on a micro level to completion in accordance with the Engineering Managers direction; Occasional peer management may occur to diversify the team in training also to tackle multiple projects within the engineering group timely; Create Bill of Material and Routers in Global Shop; Work with production, sales, service and purchasing on a first-hand basis; Create and Process 3D scans using software such as Geomagic, Navisworks and Recap. Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering required. Demonstrated knowledge of continuous improvement for manufacturing processes and structural and plate steel fabrication is required.
