Drum and Wing Pulleys
Heavy Duty Drums
PCI Heavy Duty and Mine Duty Series drum pulleys are used in numerous locations within a conveyor system such as head positions to drive a belt, or in return/tail, snub, bend and take-up orientations when belt tension and redirection is needed. PCI manufactures conveyor pulleys with quality and reliability at the forefront – designed with selective weight distribution to ensure that you receive the optimum value for your purchase. This means you’re getting the right amount of strength…in the right places.
The difference between a Heavy Duty and a Mine Duty conveyor pulley is component thickness. The thicker the components used, the greater the series name (heavy, mine, etc.). Applications with impact loads should include component thickness consideration for purposes of strength. Applications with loose, bulk materials should include consideration for abrasion resistance and the increased possibility of point loading between the pulley and belt. Although it is possible to select specific component thicknesses per application, PCI has engineered our Heavy Duty and Mine Duty pulleys to allow for easy selection and optimum value. Additionally, PCI Drum Pulleys designed with Contoured Integral End Disks maximize pulley life by reducing the risk of failure associated with end disk fatigue.
Eradicator and Eradicator Max Series
THE ERADICATOR
FAILURE FREE SINCE 2016
The Eradicator® wing pulley’s patented design retains the belt cleaning benefits of a traditional wing while providing continuous belt contact and improved cleanout efficiency. The Eradicator’s unique design provides a cleanout rate up to 40 times faster than traditional wing design. These additional benefits provide longer component life and decreased noise. Traditional wing pulleys feature straight wings which contact the belt intermittently, entrapping and recirculating material rather than displacing it, which can lead to belt damage and pulley failure.
THE ERADICATOR®-MAX
The Eradicator®-MAX wing pulley combines the unmatched cleanout rates of the Eradicator® with several unique performance enhancing characteristics to create the maximum wear – life and strength solution for all diameter applications.
Heavy Duty Wing Pulley
Product Description
Also known as self-cleaning pulleys, wing pulleys are primarily used on the tail end of bulk handling systems where loose materials have a tendency to reside on the underside of the conveyor belt, causing damage to one or both components. Wing pulleys incorporate a non-continuous contact surface comprised of individual wings or fins. This construction results in the creation of open voids that allow loose material to fall away from the contact surface. In applications where continuous contact is desired, spiral wing pulleys can be utilized. The difference between wing pulley configurations is component thickness and the use of supplemental reinforcing agents. The thicker the components used, the greater the series name (heavy, mine, etc.). Furthermore, to brace the components under the heavier loads, wing pulleys utilize stiffening agents such as gussets and reinforcing rings between wing members. Because diameter plays a role in pulley capacity, not all configurations are available in all diameters.
The Dominator Heavy Duty Wing Pulley
The patented design of the Dominator 8-12” diameter Heavy Duty (HD) Wing Pulley maximizes the material cleanout rate by incorporating the proven design features of The Eradicator® Wing. Self-gusseted angled wings provide reinforcement to prevent wing fold over better than a non-gusseted design.
Deflector Wing Pulley
The Deflector® Wing Pulley
The Deflector® 14-52” diameter Heavy Duty (HD) Wing Pulley increases the performance of a traditional wing pulley with the addition of PCI’s proven and patented ports coupled with angled deflectors to continuously direct material to the outer edges of the pulley. The combination of these features enables the Deflector to cleanout 5 times faster than a traditional wing pulley.
How Does is Work?
Traditional wing pulleys feature straight wings that contact the belt intermittently, entrapping and recirculating material rather than displacing it, often leading to belt damage and pulley failure. The Deflector wing pulley utilizes the same straight wing members as a traditional wing pulley but drastically improves cleanout efficiency from its cleanout ports and patent pending deflectors. The accelerated cleanout produced by the deflectors and ports will provide longer component life for the pulley and the belt.
Because the Deflector wing pulley improves on the performance of a traditional wing pulley, any bulk material application where a traditional wing pulley is being used will benefit from the Deflector. However, if maximum cleanout efficiency is desired, no other conveyor pulley will perform as well as the Eradicator.
Lagging Options
Lagging Product Description
The term lagging describes the variety of elastomers used to coat the contact surface of a conveyor pulley. Its primary purpose is to enhance traction by increasing the coefficient of friction between the surfaces. The enhanced friction may also improve belt life by allowing lower belt tensions and reducing abrasive conditions between the pulley and belt. PCI offers two types of lagging products; those that are hot vulcanized and those that are cold bonded using adhesives or mechanical agents. Most hot vulcanized lagging products can be formulated using Food Grade Materials and modified to include several groove patterns (Chevron, Herringbone, Diamond, etc).
Herringbone
An elastomer in its raw state is extruded and wrapped around the circumference of the conveyor pulley. The pulley is then processed in an autoclave to cure the rubber, ground to size and grooved (if specified). Vulcanized lagging is specified by selecting a rubber compound and durometer (hardness).
Spiral Wrap Rough Top
Spiral Wrap Rough Top (SWRT) is 2-ply 60A Durometer SBR belting that is wrapped around the pulley and secured with adhesive & rivets. SWRT has a nubby, rough profile for added traction. Resilient lagging is also available upon request.
Weld on Craft Face Lagging
60A Durometer rubber is vulcanized to steel plates that are formed to the shape of the pulley rim. These rubberized plates are held in place by retainers which are welded or bolted to the rim. This style of lagging has either diamond grooves or a smooth surface and is field replaceable without removing the pulley from the conveyor.
Ceramic
Individual dimpled ceramic drive tiles are molded into a base of premium grade rubber. The combination of the ceramic tiles and the rubber compound provides improved traction and abrasion resistance especially in wet or heavily soiled environments.
Slide On Smooth
Wing tips are the primary wear component of a wing style pulley. To increase the service life of a wing pulley, PCI offers two wing tip lagging options. 90A Durometer Slide-On Smooth Urethane is shown.
Weld On Diamond
Wing tips are the primary wear component of a wing style pulley. To increase the service life of a wing pulley, PCI offers two wing tip lagging options. 70A Durometer Weld-On Steel Back Diamond Urethane is shown.
Eradi Lag
PCI’s patented Eradi-Lag™ is an innovative approach to wing pulley lagging for the Eradicator® or on any round bar angled wing pulley product. Eradi-Lag™ is constructed using a proprietary blend of 60A SBR for maximum wear life and a weldable steel backing plate for ease of installation.
